Worship at The Priory CE Primary School

Everyone is welcome at our school - all faith and none. Our aim is for everyone to feel that they belong and are valued for who they are and what they contribute.

Worship is an intregral part of school life.

It is usually led by senior staff or our clergy from Chris the King. Our ethos group also lead Key Stage worship and children are active in leading prayers.

Worship in class

Our class worship is led by our teachers or by children in class.

In our class worship we often engage in discussions.

We are always thinking about how we can improve our worship.

Our worship in class and as a whole school follows this format:

Worship Leader: As a Christian family, together, we take out a candle and light it to remind us that . . .

ALL: God’s love burns brightly for each one of us.

Worship Leader: We take out the cross and place it at the centre of the table to remind us that . . .

ALL: Jesus is at the heart of our school.

Worship Leader: We take out the Bible and open it to remind us that . . .

ALL: God speaks to us through His word.

Light the candle(s)

Worship Leader: The Lord is Here . . .

ALL: His Spirit is with us.

We then discuss a story, theme, something in the news and reflect on it.

It ends with a prayer. Our school prayer is:

‘To pray is to make our hearts ready to experience the love of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Praying regularly will help us to develop a spiritual rhythm. A discipline of prayer changes the way that we think about our lives, because it creates new habits of heart and mind. Prayer opens us more deeply to the transforming grace of God. We enter into God’s presence, allowing the Holy Spirit to pray in us.’

Church of England

‘Collective worship is inspiring and all members of the community actively engage with this special time of the school day. The singing is uplifting and pupils demonstrate impressive biblical knowledge.’
